#ArtAtHome Workshop: Foil Relief
Social distancing restrictions have upended routines, schedules and summer plans. For some, that’s meant pivoting to remote work. For others, that’s meant going back to the drawing board in search of inspiration.
As your days continue to change, find consistency and inspiration through our virtual #artathome arts-and-crafts workshops, where our team guides you through a fun craft without even leaving the house.
We started the virtual workshops in this unusual time as a way to connect with our community and continue art education and fulfillment. The challenge when we started was in sourcing supplies and who would become our audience; as a result, we decided to create crafts that can be sourced from nature or supermarkets. Not knowing who would be our audience, we decided to focus on crafts to be proud of, that the creator would want to keep and share, keeping age out of the equation as long as everyone is responsible.

Supplies
Paper (any kind works)
Foil
Craft Glue (or hot glue)
Scissors
Cardboard or a sturdy material to use as a base
String or yarn
Q-tips
Other textured materials such as fabric, paper, or foraged nature elements
Directions
Cut a piece of cardboard or other sturdy material to use as the base of your foil relief
Find textured materials such as yarn, fabric, paper, or leaves to use as your image. You can also draw out a design on paper that can be traced with glue or string to create the texture.
Glue the yarn, leaves, fabric, or paper to your base ( or glue over your drawn image) to create the texture.
Get a piece of foil larger than your base. Cover the portion of the foil that will go on your base with glue. Fold the excess foil over your base like a present.
Use q-tips to gently rub over the foil to expose the imprinted design. Then you can use paint to enhance the relief further!
