Social distancing restrictions have upended routines, schedules and summer plans. For some, that’s meant pivoting to remote work. For others, that’s meant going back to the drawing board in search of inspiration.

As your days continue to change, find consistency and inspiration through our virtual #artathome arts-and-crafts workshops, where our team guides you through a fun craft without even leaving the house.

We started the virtual workshops in this unusual time as a way to connect with our community and continue art education and fulfillment. The challenge when we started was in sourcing supplies and who would become our audience; as a result, we decided to create crafts that can be sourced from nature or supermarkets. Not knowing who would be our audience, we decided to focus on crafts to be proud of, that the creator would want to keep and share, keeping age out of the equation as long as everyone is responsible.

Supply list

  1. Paper (any kind really)

  2. Wax Paper or Paper towels

  3. Hammer or Mallet/etc

  4. Foraged Flowers & Greens (the flatter the better)

Directions

  1. Explore around you to find a handful of wild (or your own) plant material. Hint: look for different colors and textures.

  2. Start by placing your paper on a flat, stable surface, like a cement ground. Next, arrange your plants face down on the paper. Hint: you can set the whole page at once, or place one to two at a time.

  3. From there, overlay the chosen wax paper or paper towel and release a gentle and cathartic rage using a hammer to transfer the plant pigment between the papers. Hint: play with softer & harder hammering to find more detail.
