#ArtAtHome Workshop: Iron-Pressed Flowers

Stages of workshop

Social distancing restrictions have upended routines, schedules and summer plans. For some, that meant pivoting to remote work. For others, that, meant going back to the drawing board in search of inspiration.

As your days continue to change, find consistency and inspiration through our virtual #artathome arts-and-crafts workshops, where our team guides you through a fun craft without even leaving the house.

We started the virtual workshops in this unusual time as a way to connect with our community and continue art education and fulfillment. The challenge when we started was in sourcing supplies and who would become our audience; as a result, we decided to create crafts that can be sourced from nature or supermarkets. Not knowing who would be our audience, we decided to focus on crafts to be proud of, that the creator would want to keep and share, keeping age out of the equation as long as everyone is responsible.

Supplies

  1. Parchment paper

  2. An iron

  3. Paper (any will do)

  4. Flowers

  5. Paper towels

Directions

  1. Gather nature elements. Flowers, leaves or anything in-between works.

  2. Layout your flowers. Lay down parchment paper (with wax paper, lay down printer paper before the wax paper). Spread your flowers and leaves evenly across the paper.

  3. Carefully place the parchment paper over the flowers to make sure they are all flattened evenly. From there, cover the parchment with a regular piece of paper.

  4. Press on the flowers and leaves for about five seconds using your iron. For items that are thicker, press for longer and add steam.

Tip: You can use your new design to create cards, add them to a picture frame or insert into a scrapbook.
